James Hall provides clients with strategic advice on novel and complex data privacy issues across contentious and noncontentious matters.

James assists clients with the design, development and implementation of global data privacy and compliance policies and risk mitigation strategies. He helps clients, across several sectors, to understand the organisational challenges of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the wider international and domestic privacy landscape, and offers clear, practical solutions.

James also works with clients to respond to data protection audits and regulatory enforcement action, and he has assisted on a number of high-profile international data breaches and regulatory investigations, working with technical experts to carefully navigate the fallout from cyberattacks and data privacy incidents.

James also advises technology-led companies, from start-ups to multinationals, on the privacy aspects of corporate transactional due diligence.

  • Acting for a client specialising in data insights and direct marketing services in connection with a compulsory data protection audit and the preliminary enforcement action taken by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

    Assisting the same client to prepare a comprehensive set of privacy compliance policies and accountability documentation and advising the business in relation to its internal privacy compliance procedures. 

    Providing representation for a client in the energy sector on a high-profile data breach affecting thousands of data subjects worldwide.

    Providing clients with strategic advice to help them respond to various complex, high-profile and contentious data subject access requests.
